Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for the Blind Veterans UK (BVUK) in memory of my dad who passed away in February and as a thank you to the BVUK who supported and cared for him in his latter years.
As dad was loosing his vision we contacted BVUK and he was assigned a Community Support Worker who made regular home visits making sure we had access to all the services and aids. She invited dad to many courses and social functions organised by the charity and dads confidence as a visually impaired person grew, and he often ventured out alone.
In 2012 he was registered blind, but with support from the BVUK and myself he was able to remain at home living independently until the end 2019 when mobility issues at the age of 89 meant he had to move to a nursing home.
Dad spent his final years as a resident at the BVUK Centres in Brighton and Rustington on the South Coast where he was able to enjoy life.
Thank you to all the staff at BVUK for the many years of assistance, the quality of care respect and dignity shown to my father as a resident and during palliative care, and the support given to me and my family in dads final months.
