Story
In May 2022 I was falsely arrested at work for rape and revenge porn. No further action was every taken after my arrest. The photo above was taken in January 2023 during one of the most difficult moments of my life. I ran away and used running (completing the 496 challenge) to forget. Whilst this kept my mind busy, talking to people and reaching out for help was my saviour. I had gone seven months without asking for help or speaking to anyone. I'd never asked for help in my life. It’s not my story, and I’ll never share the full ‘why.’ Come run with me and I’ll tell you.
Running and moving helps, but it is not the answer. Organisations like big moose help people keep busy living.
This year, I know that I am not alone. WhyWeRun is a 250km ultramarathon that will take place over 5 days this September. It’s not a race, but an event with a great purpose. To lift ourselves by lifting others and to raise money for big moose. big moose is a mental health charity that aims to leave the world in a better place than we found it.
WhyWeRun is in Pemrokeshire. As a Welsh man named David, this makes my heart sing. Furthermore, it is where I ran to when I thought it was too much. Before I reached for help.
Everything I do in 2024 is about supporting the wider running community and charities that raise awareness around suicide and mental wellbeing. I’m not running for me, but for others. Minds over medals. As cliched as that sounds. 250 km over 5 days is an unknown for me. I’ll get there and hopefully run it with the help of others. Running is mindfulness, I run to keep busy living. I've always wanted to tackle a multi-day ultramarathon. Why We Run 3.0 will see me tackle 250km over 5 days in September 2024. Quite simply, if I didn't run I'm not sure I would be here. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be.
I'm doing this for bigmoose, their goals are to
- help people with their mental health
- prevent suicide
- reduce homelessness
