Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I’m running Edinburgh Marathon 2025 for The MS society because it has a close place in mine and my family’s heart for many reasons.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a lifelong degenerative autoimmune condition where the central nervous system damages and attacks crucial properties within nerve cells.
This damage can result in numerous symptoms such as muscle weakness, reduced balance and co-ordination, changes in vision, chronic fatigue, depression, bladder and bowel dysfunction and reproductive dysfunction.
MS has been a condition impacting my family for as long as I can remember with my mum being diagnosed for over 23 years. Despite the effects of MS she has never let it stop her which we all admire.
Growing up, I saw my mum’s mobility and independence improve with the support of physiotherapists which is what inspired me to study Physiotherapy.
However, only my closest friends and family know that I was then diagnosed with MS in 2021 which brought my football scholarship in America to an end.
Despite being around the condition all my life, this didn’t make it any easier. I have had my own personal battle with accepting it but I now have a very positive outlook.
Currently there are some medications which aims to slow down the progression of MS however little is understood about how or why people can have MS and right now no cure or treatment to reverse its effects. So running this marathon is my small contribution hoping to help the MS society’s research in stopping MS.
