Strictly Fun Dancing is back on Saturday 4 November and our wonderful dancers are all ready to show off their moves at the Winter Gardens in a glamorous evening of ballroom dancing.

Story

James and I are taking part in the Strictly Fun Dancing Competition for Weston Hospice. It involves 10 weeks of dance lessons to learn the routines and perform in front of the crowds at the Winter Gardens for the big show! Anyone who knows us will know just how much out of James’s comfort zone this is! 😂

My wonderful sister Lucy is a palliative care nurse for the hospice so we know first hand how hard all the staff work, the amazing work they do and how important the services they provide are for patients and families. Unfortunately Lucy is now bravely fighting her own battle with Lymphoma which has only made the need to fundraise even more prevalent. She adds light and warmth to people’s darkest moments with her beautiful smile and truly is one of life’s heroes. The hospice is very close to her heart so we want to raise as much as possible to support them!

James visited the hospice twice during his time as Mayor and saw first hand the amazing things they do! He has taken part in lots of opportunities to fund raise for cancer charities in the past including swimming 1km, boxing and braving the shave (and waxing)! This will be the most terrifying event so far but he agreed to take part with his two left feet to raise as much money as he can for Weston Hospice.

Below is some information about the hospice… please donate and share! Every penny helps!

Just 20% of the hospices income is provided by the the Somerset CCG, so we rely on the loyal and kind-hearted people of Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset and Sedgemoor to raise the rest.

Every penny we receive from revenue made in our shops, from your event sponsorship, corporate donations and gifts left in wills ensures you, our brilliant supporters, fund 80% of the hospices operating costs.

Each minute of help we receive from treasured volunteers contributes to saving the hospice more than £1million per year in wages. They provide essential supporter across the organisation by helping at events, assisting the retail team and providing vital support to the clinical team.
