Story
With almost 1 million people in the UK diagnosed with dementia today, it is now the leading cause of death in the UK. The global number is forecasted to grow to 130 million by 2050. There are no cures and no ways to prevent it.
Alzheimer's Research UK is the leading dementia and Alzheimer's disease research charity, having committed to over £194 million worth of research since it was founded. Along the way, they have identified 3 genes related to Alzheimer's, and continue to fund much needed research into early diagnosis, clinical models and novel treatments.
In September 2024, together with a bunch of Dyson explorers, I will embark on the challenge of a lifetime to climb Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at over 19,300 feet (5895m) above sea level! We'll be trekking for 7 days, braving the altitude, with the aim of summiting the peak in the evening of the final day after several acclimation sessions and then, only if the conditions are right, will we be able to reach to the top and experience the rare African ice caps and stand on the roof top of the continent.
Hopefully, you will agree that this is a worthwhile cause and challenge! The trip will be completely self-funded so every penny we raise (plus match-funding from the James Dyson Foundation!) will go towards the groundbreaking work that Alzheimer's Research UK supports.
Thank you!
