Story
A burn injury is for life. Being burned or scalded as a child means years of painful treatment and in the worst cases hundreds of operations to release the scar tissue as they grow. The psychological impact of a burn injury is also immense, particularly when burn survivors reach their teenage years and have to cope with self-image and self-confidence issues.
As a Nurse in Urgent Care and a Mum to 2 small children, I am acutely aware of how easily & quickly burns can happen, and also how a lack of good First Aid can leave the child with a more devastating injury than had they been treated immediately. This was my main incentive in setting up Mini First Aid North Somerset, to teach as many parents as possible how to deal with injuries such as burns, so that the impact and trauma can be reduced as much as possible.
The Children’s Burns Trust are the only UK childrens charity working nationally to reduce the number of burns and scalds happening to children.
