Story

DOING IT FOR DOMINO

our team

KATY - Domino’s Mom ✌🏻

CAMERON - Domino’s big cousin 👏🏻

JONNY - Domino’s uncle 💪

I’m Katy and my 11 year old son Dominic aka Domino is profoundly autistic. He is non-verbal and has a severe learning disability. Although physically he is 11, he has the mental age of a 2-3 year old. He requires 24 hour care so my role as a parent is not like most. Extra curricular clubs and sports aren’t as easily accessible to us due to the level of support Dominic requires.

Dominic and lots of other children and young people like him attend an amazing club which we are very grateful to have been a part of for many years The Saturday club. The Saturday cafe clubs offers children with disabilities from age 5-18 a place to explore, learn, socialise, relax, face new challenges and have some freedom outside home/school at weekends and during school holidays they often cannot access within main stream environments.

It is a lifeline for families like mine, a service we rely on not only for our young people but as essential respite for us to be able to rest and give our all to our full time caring commitment to our amazing little people.

The Saturday cafe does not receive funding from the local authorities, it is funded through donations and funds from the club so fundraising is a vital part of keeping the service a float to give these incredible children and young people their safe place to socialise and explore.

To show my gratitude to not only this fantastic organisation but to all the young people and families who access it myself with some of my family have decided to take on the 22mile Glasgow Kiltwalk this year to raise as much as we can.

Please dig deep and donate if you can to help keep our club going for those special little people who access it.
