Story
Support our Katumba Drumming Santas THREE HOURS, non-stop drumathon for a cause that echoes louder than our drums-the UNICEF's Children of Gaza Crisis Appeal!
Help us raise much needed aid as part of our 'Drumathon' on Sunday December the 3rd, when we drum up support as Liverpool Santa Dash runners make their way through the city to the beat of our drums! Support us by donating. Every beat counts!
Why Gaza?
Hundreds of thousands of children are affected by the violent conflict between the Palestinian occupied territory and Israel and an unrelenting bombardment of Gaza followed the brutal attacks in Israel on the 7th of October. Violence is taking a terrible toll on the lives of children and families.
Whilst Israel has strong emergency and health services, people in Gaza are severely lacking food, water, electricity, and medicine. Homes and critical infrastructure lie in ruin.
According to latest reports, Over 4,650 children have lost their lives, and more than 20,000 are injured. Each beat of our drums aims to bring relief to these young lives."
Notably, our Directors, Juliana Landim and Ritchie Tunstall, brought the transformative power of our drumming and movement initiatives to Palestine a few years ago. They collaborated with displaced young people, orchestrating their inaugural street carnival. This experience resonated deeply, echoing the roots of Brazilian carnival, where oppressed communities reclaimed the streets, made their voices heard, occupied space, and expressed themselves with resounding spirit. Simultaneously poignant and saddening, their firsthand encounter with the stories and realities left a lasting impact.
Is aid getting to those in need?
Despite the dangerous humanitarian and security situation, UNICEF has been able to deliver:
• Medical supplies: we are delivering medical supplies for hospitals, including medicine for at least 165,000 people.
• Clean Water: 50,000 litres of fuel to support the only functioning water plant, which provides clean drinking water for 75,000 people.
• Mental Health Support: Mental health and psychosocial support for 8,000 children and families affected by the crisis.
And more. With the situation rapidly deteriorating, UNICEF needs our help to reach more children and families.
