Story
I'm delighted to say I've joined #teampossible and will be running the London Marathon in April 2025 for the wonderful charity Young Epilepsy.
Young Epilepsy works to ensure the voices of children and young people with epilepsy are heard, their voices respected and their ambitions realised. The charity adopts a holistic approach, working with children and young people, their families and other services to create a supportive environment for them to thrive and reach their potential.
My reason for running for Young Epilepsy is deeply personal.
In January 2021, my daughter, nicknamed Little P was diagnosed with epilepsy on what was her first birthday. It was during Covid and I remember being told the news on my own, in an empty children's ward and thinking my world had fallen apart. Little P started having seizures when she was just 11 months old and they were always triggered by an emotional stimulus. Needless to say they were terrifying and as a parent I felt frightened, anxious and like things were out of my control.
Despite being prescribed anti-seizure medication Little P continued to have seizures which was heartbreaking. Not only did they wear her out but I also remember worrying she was a dialed down version of who she should be.
Fast forward to now, three and a half years on from diagnosis and Little P is thriving. Living her best life and without a shadow of a doubt her full and absolute self. In January 2022 her medication was changed and she's currently two and a half years seizure free.
With that in mind, now seems like the perfect time to run the London Marathon and I can't think of a better cause to run it for than Young Epilepsy. I am hoping this challenge and the money I raise will have a meaningful impact, raise awareness and help Young Epilepsy in its mission to create a world without limits for children and young people with epilepsy - a better world for not only my Little P but others like her.
Thanks a million for all your support - I hope to see many of you on the Big Day!
