Story
Hello,
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read. My name is Katie and I’ve decided to skydive in order to raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart. For the last 3 years, charities such as beat has helped my family and friends through such a difficult time when I was at an all time low. I’m so proud to say that I am fully recovered from anorexia nervosa which seems a miracle but unfortunately there are still millions struggling with this terrible mental illness. From first hand experience, I understand how all consuming and evil this illness is and I know a couple of people close to me who are currently struggling. Therefore, I won’t just be raising for my own benefit but also I’m raising money for my friends, so they can continue in seeking the support that I received on my journey.
A little overview of the charity that I’m fundraising for: Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.
These serious mental illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. 1.25 million people in the UK have a diagnosed eating disorder. They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, and up to one in four sufferers are male. Eating disorders cost the UK's economy £16.8 billion each year.
Most people don’t realise they are suffering from the illness or are in denial, however, with the help of beat, it will allow those to choose themselves, health and wellbeing. I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel, as this time last year, I never thought I’d find the chance to leave my bed let alone jumping out of a plane!
Please donate if you can, it would mean the world to me. Even £1 can make a difference.
Thank you,
Katie
