In the UK, one in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. In Wales alone, thousands of women and children seek help every year to escape abusive situations—yet many more suffer in silence, unsure of where to turn. Abuse isn’t always physical. Mental and emotional abuse can be just as damaging, leaving deep and lasting effects on a person’s self-worth, confidence, and ability to trust.
I have witnessed the impact of abuse in different forms and relationships. It was something I became familiar with long before I truly understood it. Having experienced emotional abuse myself, I know how conditioning and gaslighting can distort a person’s reality, making it harder to see the situation for what it truly is.
Many victims are left carrying guilt, self-doubt, and shame—reinforced by a society where abuse is often met with silence, discomfort, or avoidance, making it even harder to speak out or seek help. That’s why raising awareness and providing real support is so important.
Organisations like Welsh Women’s Aid play a crucial role in offering immediate help to those who need it most, providing a lifeline that can change—and even save—lives.
The day of this race also marks six years in a loving, healthy relationship—something that once felt out of reach. It’s a reminder of the strength it takes to move forward and the importance of having the right support.
If you can, please support this cause. Every donation helps give someone else the chance to find safety, support, and a future free from abuse.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Any donations towards my minimum goal of £250 would be greatly appreciated.
