Story
On 8th September this year I am doing the Great North Run and have chosen to do so in aid of the Miscarriage Association.
Every year in the UK, there are an estimated 250,000 miscarriages. Most are unexplained. Thankfully, most women are able to go on to have a successful pregnancy but many don’t.
After nearly eight years of trying to get pregnant, which sadly included four known miscarriages and failed IVF, David and I’s fertility journey is over. We will probably never definitively know why we were not destined to be parents but we do know that we can help other families who find themselves in similar situations to ours.
The Miscarriage Association helped us when our first pregnancy turned out to be a Complete Molar Pregnancy: a very rare and complicated form of miscarriage that affects approx. 1 in 1000 pregnancies. Their guidance and information helped us try to navigate and understand that terrifying time. Since then, we, along with thousands of families across the UK have been supported by the Miscarriage Association’s work.
When you get pregnant in the UK there is a 1 in 5 chance it will end in miscarriage. Throughout our heartache, David and I have been lucky enough to have the love and support of our incredible families and friends. But sometimes you need something else and the Miscarriage Association, along with the staff at Crosshouse Hospital Kilmarnock’s EPAS, helped us immeasurably.
When I run on 8th September I’m running for them, my babies and all families across the UK and it would be great if I could raise a wee bit of money by doing so. Any amount of support will be greatly appreciated.
Your sponsorship will help them to provide support and information to anyone affected by miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or molar pregnancy. It will support their work with health professionals and researchers to improve care and information, and it will also help raise public awareness of the facts and feelings of pregnancy loss and of the Miscarriage Association as a source of help.
Thank you.
