Story
I am fundraising for the Psoriasis Association to raise awareness about psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and to ensure that others do not have to face this journey alone. To achieve this, I plan to walk at least 3k every day, rain, snow, or shine, with the goal of building enough strength to take part in a race later in the year. Having multiple chronic illnesses can make the effects of physical activity unpredictable, but I am determined to persevere. Additionally, I will donate all the profits from selling chronic illness and psoriasis-related items from my online store to the Psoriasis Association. You can find ways to purchase these items when they are launched at @KaylewCreative on Instagram.
In 2019, during a particularly stressful period in my life, my health began rapidly declining, and I first started noticing symptoms of psoriasis. At the time, I was in college studying hairdressing. One day, my classmates pointed out a small patch of skin on my scalp that looked like psoriasis, although it was too small to tell for sure. Unfortunately, as my health deteriorated, this patch quickly spread across my scalp. This prompted my first visit to a doctor about it.
A year later, at the beginning of the pandemic, I developed pain and stiffness in my hand. After six months of visiting numerous confused doctors, I was finally diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. In the six years since, I was also diagnosed with six more chronic illnesses that, together, have made life significantly more difficult. It felt like I was spending all my time in and out of hospitals, visiting specialists, and having weekly blood tests. Over this period, the psoriasis has spread from my head to other parts of my body, leaving me feeling extremely self-conscious, vulnerable, and alone. I was worried about what people would think of me and left social media.
During this challenging time, I discovered the Psoriasis Association forums. Here, I found a supportive community where I felt comfortable asking questions and sharing my experiences. The support I received from other members empowered me to learn more about my condition and discuss potential treatments with my dermatologist—some of which worked, and some that did not. I have now been approved for biological treatment and am hopeful for the future.
Your support means the world to me and to countless others who are battling psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that nobody feels alone in their struggle.
Thank you for your generosity and support! All money donated through JustGiving is done safely and securely, and will go directly to the charity.
