Story
Imagine waking up in a hospital bed and not knowing where you are, who anyone around you is, or why you are there.
For someone with dementia, that feeling is very real; as you can imagine, hospital can be a frightening and unfamiliar place, especially if you have no recollection of becoming ill or injured in the first place. Prior to hospital you liked going for a walk or sitting in your garden with your favourite beverage. You now require some support/ care services so that you can safely be discharged from hospital. You have been in hospital for weeks, whilst waiting for the correct support for your needs. You have no family and your friends are of a similar age so due to their own limitations are unable to visit. You long for a familiar face and have not felt the fresh air on your face for weeks and weeks and long to sit in a quiet area if only for a while. This is the reality for some of our patients
We want to make sure patients with dementia and their families or carers can experience the very best care, in the very best environment. Creating a more soothing environment for patients.
We hope to raise enough to create a special garden within the N&N Hospital grounds, providing a peaceful outdoor space that can be safely and securely accessed by patients and their families.
Myself and some my my colleagues within OPM and friends are planning to walk 26 miles in September to raise vital funds for this fantastic campaign.
