A Year of Challenges!!
WSBH Palliative Pacers
Campaign by Woking Hospice (RCN 1082798)
Colleagues from Woking & Sam Beare Hospice are taking on the Thames Path Challenge and walking up to 100k. All of the money raised will fund palliative and end of life care to patients with life limiting conditions living in North West Surrey.

Story

I am the IPU Manager at Woking and Sam Beare Hospice and I'm setting myself up for a year of epic challenges!!

Did you know that hospice care only receives 33% funding from the government?

That other 67% has to come from the kindness of individuals fundraising, charity shops and business who want to sponsor us. And in times of such huge financial challenges we know how hard it is for people to spare any money for charities.

We are incredibly fortunate that we provide the highest possible standard of care to patients at the end of their life or through some of the most challenging weeks during the finally stages of diseases such as Cancer, MND and MS.

I joined the hospice in April last year and I have found myself completely enveloped into the comradery of charity life and all being in it together to give the very best.

So with all this in mind, I plan to complete a series of tough challenges through out the year in the bid to raise money to buy new syringe drivers for the unit. (Possibly any other equipment we need depending on how well we do!)

The syringe drivers we currently have are starting to need a lot of tlc to keep ticking along. And some already need urgent replacing. Syringe drivers deliver medicine to patients at the end of their life or who are symptomatically uncontrolled. Specifically to help with symptoms such as pain, sickness, agitation, secretions and anxiety.

Each new driver and lockable case is £1310.40.

We will eventually need around 20 new drivers but for now I'll settle for raising enough money for just 1! (Maybe 2?)

(20= £26,208 😱)

The challenges I am going to take on...

Woking aquathlon (400m swim 5km run) 14th April 2024 - booked.

Go grab life walk - May 19th booked!!!

Dragon boat race - June

Swimathon - October

Snowdon mountain climb 3rd August - booked!

100km Thames walk -14th September - booked!! https://www.ultrachallenge.com/thames-path-challenge/

More events and details to be added!!

So please spare a few pennies or dig deep and share wide!!
