Story
This year I will be running the London Marathon, despite being a runner my whole life, this will be the furthest and biggest challenge I've ever taken on as an athlete.
As I embark on this training mission, I'd like to raise money for a small charity not many of you will have heard of- Since 2010 my dad, and subsequently myself and the rest of the Buckingham clan have been involved in the support of The Good Samaritan's Primary School & Orphanage in Kampala, Uganda.
The Charitable Trust’s purpose is to ensure the children of the Wakiso district get the primary education and skills that are vital to their future, with the aim to provide the wider community with healthcare and sustainable technology to meet their needs.
Many children at the school are orphans from families of those affected by HIV/AIDS. Other children at the school are often from homes where their guardians are ill, poor, elderly and are also in need of support.
I was fortunate enough to be one of many QEGS pupils to visit the school back in 2014 where we re-built old classrooms and fundraised for a dormitory block. Future trips have provided toilet blocks, kitchens and teachers houses... All the things we take for granted in the UK.
As the project grows, I'd like any marathon donations to contribute towards the health clinic we hope to be built to support the staff, children and local community.
Life in Uganda is very different to the UK, just the smallest donation to us, could be life changing to them. Having seen the work first hand, it really does make a world of difference.
Please donate what you can, and if anyone wants to support me on the day, feel free to come along!
