Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Those that know me reasonably well will know that I have not long ago submitted my final assignment for my Open University Law degree! I get my final results early September!

I didn't manage to complete further education when I was young, so going back to education as a 40year old was a bit daunting, and well, then covid hit 2 months into my degree! The OU have been supportive throughout and the tutors have all been fantastic, I'm really proud to be nearly over the line!

The OU is great for people like me because they give you the chance to get a degree and improve your prospects but let you fit it round full-time work (in my case) and for others child-care and other caring responsibilities. It could work for you too honestly!

I was lucky to have a lot of my funding paid for as a result of living in Scotland, but not all students fit the criteria for that of course.

I like climbing and walking (although not usually this far) so this will be a challenge, but, in of course, such a beautiful part of the world!

Through this fundraising challenge we hope to raise a total of £3462.00 overall, to cover a further module cost for an OU Student in financial need.

Whom without our support would not have been able to continue their education and achieve their dreams!

About the campaign

12 hour challenge, to complete 24 miles of moderate walking, covering the following 3 major peaks in Yorkshire, running on 31/08/24. Our goal is to raise £3636 for OUSET, to fund a further Open University module for a student in financial need.

About the charity

The Open University Students Educational Trust (OUSET) is a charity owned and operated by the OU Students Association, to support OU students who are in severe financial hardship, where the likelihood of successfully completing their study goals is threatened. One of the aims of the OU Students Shop is to support this charitable endeavour. OUSET's Board of Trustees is chaired by the immediate past president of the Students Association and is nearly entirely comprised of student trustees. The majority of funds for OUSET are raised by Students Association members. Year on year, students use their ingenuity and their expertise to come up with ever more interesting ways of raising money on behalf of those students in financial need. You can find out more about becoming involved with OUSET fundraising here on the Students Association website or by emailing ouset@open.ac.uk. However the money is raised, OUSET is always grateful for the support it receives from our OU students, staff, and friends, so any kind donations are sincerely appreciated.
