As founder and CEO of Delight, I'm thrilled (if not a bit daunted!) to be joining a team from Lloyd's to take on the gruelling National 3 Peaks Challenge to raise vital funds to help Delight reach more disadvantaged children with our arts & wellbeing programmes.

The Challenge

The National 3 Peaks Challenge involves walking the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

On 14th June, we will begin our ascent of Ben Nevis in Scotland which at 1,344m is the tallest of the 3 peaks, from there we will drive to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike, 978m, and onto Wales to climb Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) where we will finish the challenge with a 1,085m climb. All within a 24 hour window......

The Training

The 24 hour walk is itself daunting but the training so that I'm not lagging behind is a real commitment. My weekly training schedule includes:

2 * weight training sessions

2* cardio sessions

1 * power walk (so that I can keep up)

1 * long walk - each week I'm increasing the walk by 15 minutes so that before the challenge I'm up to a 5 hour walk

What I'm excited about

I love walking (although not power walking) so I'm going to really enjoy getting out into our beautiful countryside

This is the first time that Delight has been part of a sponsored event, I'm so grateful to Lloyd's for selecting Delight as their charity and I'm so excited about what this can do for Delight's profile but also raising vital funds. We are in tough times for fundraising and this could be transformational.

What I'm dreading

Ben Nevis in the dark - We plan to start the walk at 5pm which means we'll be descending in the dark, I'll need to remember to pack a head torch.

Scarfell Pike - apparently it's easy to get lost on this mountain so I'll have to remember not to daydream or wander off. Also it sounds like we might need to wade through a steam, that can be up to waist height (!!) to get to the start.

Snowdon - keeping up with the group. Please don't let me be the one holding everyone up................

and then there are the issues of:

sleeping on a 17 seater minibus with 15 people

how do you have a woodland wee if you are with lots of people you don't know very well??
