Story
We lost our amazing son, Oliver, at 11years old in April after years of decline caused by the cruelty of Motor Neurone Disease. Out of the sadness a kind stranger reached out to me on social media to offer support and shared how he lost his brother, Spenny, to the disease some years ago. He also let me know that his incredible mother, Mary, was doing a 15,000ft charity skydive for MNDA to mark her 80th birthday this summer. They were touched by Oliver’s story and asked our permission for her to dress as Spider-Man during the skydive in honour of our Spider-Man-mad son. How incredible. Well, I couldn’t just sit back and watch Mary throw herself from a plane dressed as Spider-Man alone, could I? (I probably should have!).
I absolutely hate, hate, HATE heights, but the thought of Mary doing this for Spenny and Oliver (and Adrian and Rob - hence ‘SOAR’), coupled with the brilliant support we have received from the Motor Neurone Disease Association over the years left me no choice.
We’d appreciate any donations you can to help MNDA develop vital research into finding a cure for this terrible disease to prevent other families from going through this heartbreak, and help support those who unfortunately are. Thank you, and wish us luck!
