Kathy Finkel is raising money for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team

Long Distance Walkers Association Flower of Suffolk 100 · 24 May 2025

The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is a totally voluntary organisation. It exists to help save lives and assist injured and distressed people in Cleveland and the Western areas of North York Moors. In the 50+ years of its existence the Team has been involved in well over 1000 incidents.

Story

I'm doing the Long Distance Walkers Association flagship event in May, 100 miles in 48 hours. As you know I'm passionate about walking and and the LDWA. Cleveland Mountain Rescue cover the North Yorks Moors and and coastline where I do much of my walking and regularly lead on the Lyke Wake Walk, though I've never needed their services it's good to know they are there.

Please give whatever you can. Thank you.

The Team was established in 1965 and normally has around 45 – 50 Search and Rescue Team Members (including probationers) who are on call 24-hours a day, every day of the year. We also have approximately 20 Support Team members assisting with all aspects of the team but especially fundraising and acting as casualties.

We are all volunteers; we have no paid staff and our services are offered free to anyone who needs them. We are reliant on the generosity of local people and groups to cover the £42,000 it costs to run the Team every year.
