Story
On the 21st April 2024 I will be running the London Marathon as part of #TeamMarieCurie in memory of my lovely friend Bronagh Thompson.
Bronagh was so supportive in our 29 years of teaching together, I couldn't have asked for a better work colleague and friend. Although she thought I was crazy when I ran a Half Marathon she did say she'd be there to cheer me on if I ever got a place in the London Marathon Ballot.
In October 2022 Bronagh was diagnosed with a brain tumour and passed away 9 short weeks later. The wonderful Marie Curie nurses looked after her at night, in her home so she could spend her final weeks with her family.
I always said I'd never run a marathon and I was initially relieved when I was unsuccessful in gaining a place in the ballot. However, I know I can do a half marathon so it needed to be a greater challenge in memory of such an amazing and wonderful person. I am grateful that #TeamMarieCurie gave me a place in their team to honour my friend.
The training is well and truly underway, time consuming and hard - and not going to get any easier. Please support me if you are able, by donating to Marie Curie in Bronagh’s memory, so that they can continue caring for others.
See you at the finish line!
Kath
