Fundraising for Tom's Trust
On Sunday 9th March, I will be running my 6th Cambridge Half Marathon. To keep me motivated this year (as my body gets more reluctant every year), I decided this was the year to raise some money for a very deserving local charity, Tom's Trust. During my 13 years at St Thomas More Primary School in Saffron Walden, I have worked with two amazing children who have battled diagnosis and treatment for brain tumours. Thankfully, both have made good recoveries and Tom's Trust were there to support them and their families during these incredibly difficult times. This year, my mother was diagnosed with a brain cancer giving me another insight into this cruel disease. After a short battle she passed away in March. This run will be in her memory and she will be with me every step of the way.
I will be a part of a team of 70 runners taking on the ultimate challenge in Cambridge in March. We will be pounding the pavements to support children with brain tumours and their families. Around 500 children and young people are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year, that's around 10 a week. Many will experience serious mental health issues as a result of their tumour and 62% of those who survive will then live with life-long disabilities.
Supporting one child and their family costs over £3,300 per year. The money raised by our incredible team of runners taking part in the Cambridge Half will support many more families. Every mile we run, every pound you donate will be helping Tom's Trust to support another child and enable us to change these young people's lives.
I have put down £1500 as a target but I would love to smash this to bits. If you are able, please find your trousers with the deepest pockets and give as generously as you are able. I have seen Tom's Trust at work with St Thomas More School children first hand. Their work and dedication is second to none. No child should have to journey through cancer. Let's do all we can to support them.
