Story

I did it! 😄

Nearly 24 hours have passed since I completed my charity abseil all in aid of a wonderful small charity based in Southampton.
On reflection, I enjoyed the experience although I did have nerves but nerves make you perform better right? :-)
I could not have completed my challenge without many people’s support whether it be from the practical assistance in harnessing up to the sponsorship to take on this challenge.
I am blessed with the amount of support that I have had and I’m grateful for everybody reaching out to support me to help this wonderful charity who have given me so much in the past.
Read on to learn more about the charity and why I want to help them to continue their amazing work.

Southampton Sight is a small local charity supporting people to live well with their sight loss. 2024 is their 125th year of delivering services in Southampton. To celebrate. this incredible achievement and to prove to both supporters and members alike that living with Sight loss doesn’t mean that it is life loss. The charity are encouraging people like me to have more self belief and take part in challenges that may put them out of their comfort zones.

The money raised will support people living with sight loss by giving them opportunities and experiences they would otherwise not be able to try.

A little about me, how I got involved with the charity and why I want to give back:

Not long after I moved to Hampshire, I was made aware of this small yet supportive charity. I worked for them initially providing training to members in the use of access technology and have first-hand experience of witnessing people using technology to complete tasks such as contacting friends and family members independently for the first time in years and the changes in someone’s self-belief is remarkable. I then worked with colleagues and volunteers delivering sight loss awareness training to organisations and school aged children.

I am taking on this challenge because I see it as my way of giving back ; when I worked for the charity, I was given opportunities that changed my life and helped me to discover my passion for sailing. I want the charity to be able to continue its life enhancing work. Any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. I know that even a small donation will help to change lives. Thank you.
