Story
On September 2nd 2023 I lost my amazing husband Kyle to Osteosarcoma, which is a form of bone cancer. Not only was Kyle the most wonderful husband and best friend to me, but he was an incredible Dad, friend, son, brother and uncle. He fought so hard to stay with all of us putting himself through the most awful treatments that made him suffer beyond words. Ultimately these treatments were not enough to save him, but as poorly as he was, there was nothing he wouldn’t have tried so that he could be here to watch his children grow up.
Chemotherapy and other treatments for Bone Cancer failed Kyle, like they do for hundreds of other people every year in the UK alone, and this needs to change. No one else is more dedicated to finding a cure for this beast of a disease than BCRT but they need your help to carry on their research so that Kyle’s life and thousands of others are not in vain.
I started this fundraiser in January 2023 (see below) and after completing the Great North Run and raising an incredible £8000, I simply cannot stop there. In April 2025 I will be running the London Marathon for BCRT, please help me to continue to raise funds for this incredible charity and to spread vital awareness of primary bone cancer to the general public and the health care professionals.
I will be taking on the Great North Run in September 2024, just over a year after losing my Kyle. I’ve never done anything like this before and those that know me, know I’m not a runner, and most definitely would not expect me to be taking part in a half marathon so please get behind me on behalf of that amazing man and let’s raise as much as we can in his memory!
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!
Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
