Team Tristan's Adrenaline Challenge fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities

Adrenaline Challenge · 27 April 2024
Kate, Di, Jess and Sally take on The Adrenaline Pass at Honister Slate Mine.
The Adrenaline Pass is a combination of: The Infinity Bridge + Climb the Mine + The Jump – a 30m freefall experience and the only one of its kind in the UK.
We will be crossing Europe’s longest high-wire bridge. The Infinity Bridge offers an exhilarating start to our adventure. The bridge is a breathtaking 1,000ft above the valley floor.
Then we’ll venture through the mountainside and head deep into the mine for the Climb the Mine segment of the adventure. We will be faced with all manner of exciting obstacles as we make our way through the mine, from vertical climbs and rope bridges to zip lines and a Tarzan swing.
Finally to round off the adventure, we will face our fears and take part in ‘The Jump’ - experiencing the UK’s first-ever 30m freefall jump.
We do all this in honour of Tristan Elijah Campbell.
Tristan was born with a rare condition called Heterotaxy, causing severe congenital heart defects. Tristan had Right Atrial Isomerism, meaning early in development his body tried to form two right hand sides, because of this, along with only half a working heart, many of his organs were misplaced or missing. It shouldn't have worked, but miraculously did. He was a real Picasso of creation.
Tristan was given a 50-50 chance of life to the age of 5.Thanks to the incredible team at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Tristan had a fighting chance at life. He only made it half way, but he did it in style and has left every life he touched blessed with his joy!
Tristan passed away in January 2018, age 2years 9months, following complications after his 3rd open heart surgery.
But up to that point, Tristan showed us how to do life! He loved every moment of it. He was a happy, chatty boy who was full of excitement. There was no stopping him from having fun. He truly was the BEST EVER.
We have pledged to honour his life, and to share his joy, through supporting those who have supported us on our journey. Mac House (Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey) gave us a home away from home without worry, so we could be together during his in-patient times. From the night we arrived, when Tristan was just 24 hours old, we had a bed to rest on, a shower to refresh and a kitchen to prepare meals - everything we needed to sustain the endless hours by his side on ICU. We will forever be grateful for Mac House removing the concern of basic needs so our hearts could focus on our son.
Since 1993, Ronald McDonald House Alder Hey, fondly known as MacHouse, has tripled in size to become the largest Ronald McDonald House in Europe and has supported thousands of families from across the UK and beyond.
But now the aged building is in desperate need of a major refurbishment to improve the family experience and ensure the House can continue supporting families of poorly children for the next 30 years and beyond.
At Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, we need your help to raise the final £2 million of our ambitious £11 million project.
Get involved and help us transform our ‘home away from home’ for families of tomorrow.
