Story
Last April we went through the worst experience of our lives. Erica contracted Kawasaki's disease and following a stay in the Borders General was transferred through the night and spent the next fortnight fighting for her life in the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People in Critical Care.
We were given a room in the Ronald McDonald house on the 3rd floor of the hospital for free. Which meant we could stay near our little lady and not have to juggle visits and journeys to and from nearby relatives houses.
Words cannot express our gratitude and this is why a year on I am asking you all to take a moment of Gratefulness on 14 April 2023 to stop and breathe, to think on life and health and how fast it can all change.
I am not asking you to donate a specific amount, only give if you can spare. So many families are experiencing the pain and trauma we so luckily got through and having a space to rest nearby is so incredibly valuable.
About the Charity
Sometimes, the best medical care for a child isn't close to home.
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free 'home away from home' accommodation to families with children having treatment in specialist hospitals.
Our 12 Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child's bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.
On behalf of RMHC UK, thanks for supporting my virtual bucket collection.
