We challenge blind children & young adults to change perceptions of what is possible

Story

Felicity will be running the Loch Lomond 5k along with her sister Freyja to support the charity VICTA (Visually impaired children taking action).

VICTA is a national charity that provides support to children and young adults from 0 to 29 who are blind or partially sighted and their families. VICTA believes that everyone has the right to an independent and fulfilling life. VICTA’s support, advice, grants and activities enable young people and their families to build skills, develop confidence and help each other toward a more positive future.

Felicity has attended a couple of weekends away with the charity and talks fondly of the independence and adventures that these experiences bring her. Making her own packed lunch and kayaking out to an island for a picnic is a memory she talks fondly of when she was on a retreat with the charity. Simple pleasures that bring her so much joy. Felicity thrives on independence and adventure and this charity helps support both.

She’d like to give something back and is therefore running the Loch Lomond 5k with her guide runner Karen, and sister Freyja, to help support the charity.

Karen will continue with the fundraising at the Highlander Backyard Ultra in July and London marathon in April 2024. Felicity's bravery and determination inspires Karen, it is an honour to be supporting the charity.

VICTA is a small but national charity in the UK that empowers children and young adults who are blind or partially sighted and their families. Aware that feelings of isolation and loneliness are dominant within the world of visual impairment, VICTA use activity-based learning as a positive setting for social interaction. For the blind and partially sighted young people, involvement in team-based activities can be positively associated with social acceptance and a sense of belonging, especially where such involvement is characterised by positive coaching, progressive skill development and peer support. VICTA work hard to help young people question limiting presumptions they might have, helping them to view themselves and their potential in a new way. VICTA want them to be able to make a difference to their own lives.
