Story
The Christie at Macclesfield brings cancer care closer to the local area.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2023 and after having surgery I began 18 weeks of chemotherapy at the Christie at Macclesfield followed by radiotherapy. I completed my treatment at the end of February 2024 and rang the bell.
One of my biggest fears at the thought of chemotherapy was losing all my hair. I discussed this with my consultant and decided to try the cold cap or head cooling system as it’s also known. There were only 2 of these machines on the unit with 2 head coolers on each so my appointment had to coincide with a cold cap being available. The cap literally freezes your head and is not comfortable to say the least but I was able to tolerate it with the help of a heated throw my good friend bought for me. It didn’t stop most of my hair from falling out but left me with enough to never wear my wig and did wonders for my self esteem. It also protected my follicles and my hair grew back thick but also curly which I’ve never had before.
From the ladies at the front reception desk right through to the skilled chemotherapy nurses I would like to say a massive thank you .
I would like any money raised from our walk to go towards a head cooler for the Christie at Macclesfield.
Thank you very much to everyone who sponsors me on this very worthy cause.
