Story
Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. I lost my husband David to this last year on the 4th of September a few days before our fifth wedding anniversary. Sadly he was the fifth person that l've known to have succumbed to this cruel illness. No one should die from this.
Unfortunately, the early stages can go undetected as there can be no noticeable symptoms till it's too late, which was the case with David. He initially had some lower back pain in Lockdown 2020. By the time he showed more noticeable symptoms and went to the doctor, it was already too late.
David was diagnosed on the 12th April 2021 and was told the cancer was aggressive and had already spread to three other areas.
At the end of July 2023, we were given the devastating news there was nothing more they could do and that David had about six months left, but he unexpectedly passed away five weeks later.
Bowel Cancer UK supports everyone who is affected by bowel cancer. They fund research that improves the prevention, early detection and treatment of the disease.
This research and treatment gave David more time with his family and friends, and left us all with precious memories.
I'm running the Great North Run in memory of David for Bowel Cancer UK on the 8th September. This would have been our sixth wedding anniversary. No one should see their loved ones suffer or die from this cruel illness, which is why this charity means so much to me.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Every penny counts. ♥️
