Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well this will be my 6th time, I have done this ride and you have helped me to raised £14,345 over the last few years. The group as a whole has raised over £1 million over the 6 year period the Grand Depart ride has been running.
As some of you know I love cycling, but not as much as I love my family and friends. So when Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December 2015 it was a real blow, particularly as he hadn't really displayed any of the classic symptoms.
I had seen this ride advertised back in 2015 and thought what a great idea but had no real reason to do the ride. 2016 just passed in a blur, until I saw the ride repeatedly advertised on Facebook and thought I really should sign up, thinking even if I don't raise a huge amount then at least maybe one more person knows the symptoms and can get early treatment, because that is the key for survival. Another friend of the family was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December 2016 and this has made me more determined to get the message out there.
Cancer of different types has affected most people and research is the only way to stop this and money is needed for this vital research.
So what has your money done in the last year, well there has been great leaps in research in for prostate cancer, with advances in immunotherapy, use of genes to personalise treatment, new treatments for men with advanced prostate cancer to give them more time, reduction in side effects with targeted treatments and advancements in a home urine test, for the active monitoring of men with prostate cancer. Charities have also been hit very hard throughout the pandemic with many fundraising events being cancelled.
Prostate Cancer UK is the leading prostrate cancer charity in the UK and has invested over £37 million in the last 20 or so years. This raises awareness, provides ground breaking research and support for men and their families affected by this cancer.
