Third Hope is a charity in Northern Uganda working for the long-term rehabilitation of ex-child soldiers. In the 1990s, thousands of children were abducted from their homes and forced to fight for the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army), a rebel group led by Joseph Kony. When the civil war ended in 2006, many returned to their villages but are still struggling to integrate back into their communities and reverse the stigmatisation against them. Third Hope has built a village-style residential home and sustainable farm to provide vocational skills in farming, classes in numeracy and literacy and ongoing trauma therapy to help these ex-child soldiers rebuild their lives and heal from the horrors of their past. They are also involved in reforestation efforts in the local community.
