Story
I'm taking part in the Walk 50 Miles in June challenge to support families facing dementia.
This year the lives of me and my Danish family have been turned upside down by the impact of dementia. It's an unimaginably cruel disease not only affecting our loved one but also my sister, myself and our wider family.
I chose to build my life in the UK many years ago and have always been supported in that decision by my family (although I know they found my move very hard in the early years). I am not able to support and help my loved ones nearly as much as I'd like.
I need to feel that I am helping to make a difference and one way I can do that is to raise funds for Dementia UK. Their important work supports families like mine who face a battle every day to find a way through life with this disease. The battle is predetermined but the life, the joy and the memories we share with our loved one doesn't have to be.
Your donation, big or small, makes a difference.
Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline.
£33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s behaviour.
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimers disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
Thank you!
