Story
SAMS’ founder Sir John Murray was part of the 1872 Challenger Expedition, a grand tour of the world covering 68,000 nautical miles. This was the birth of marine science as we know it.
To celebrate the amazingness of marine science, this Christmas week, amid the usual chaos and carnage, I'm going to walk a total of 68,000 steps: "The Christmas Challenger Challenge". Probably in the driving West Coast wind and rain. Possibly (probably) hungover.
And if I don't manage to complete that step count, my most beloved pair of red bottomed stilettos will go to auction (with the proceeds going to SAMS). For anyone who knows me, this jeopardy is particularly HARROWING.
But why am I doing this?
Well, by supporting SAMS to create a healthier stronger ocean, we can tackle some of the most URGENT issues facing the world RIGHT NOW, such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, and providing sustainable resources for our growing population.
I'm getting involved in SAMS' first ever fundraising campaign because together we can unlock the incredible POWER of the seas, and protect our ocean, for people, and for planet.
