Story
In a world where 5 billion people lack access to anesthesia and surgery, millions suffer disability or death. SAWW is dedicated to addressing this inequality by providing essential equipment, training, and research to improve anesthesia services in underserved countries and emergency situations. The Marden Medical Centre team is rallying support for SAWW to purchase vital equipment for the neonatal intensive care unit at Suhul Hospital in Shire City, Tigray, Ethiopia. Amidst the challenges of a war-torn region and a surge of internally displaced people, Suhul Hospital remains a beacon of hope. Shire has become a major centre for internally displaced people. Less than half of hospitals in Tigray are still functional and very few are able to perform surgery. Suhul Hospital is still functioning but is overwhelmed by patients needing help. The funds raised will directly contribute to acquiring life-saving equipment such as a Baby CPAP, a neonatal warmer, portable pulse oximeter, and a patient monitor for the recovery room. These tools are essential for providing critical care to sick and premature babies and literally save lives.
Baby CPAP costs £2,320.This is a small price to pay for a device that will save hundreds of young lives, it has virtually no running costs as it produces its own supply of oxygen / air mix, which is crucial in locations without ready supplies of medical gases.
To support this cause, the team is gearing up for the Dragon Boat Festival 2024 - CCT at Bewl Water on Saturday 31st August. With determination and unity, they will be racing against other teams in a canoe adorned with an ornate dragon's head and tail.
We would be very grateful for your support.
