Story
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to abseil from the ward block at RSH and raise money for the hospital Swan Fund, under the umbrella of SaTH Charity.
I set the Swan Fund up in July 2015 in memory of my lovely Dad, to improve and support the last hours and days of life care at SaTH. The fund has allowed most wards to have their own swan room, many have been further improved with beautiful sky lights, 2 x swan suites (one on each site) the swan sites give staff and families / friends a designated space to have important, open and honest conversations and a place for loved ones to take a break, with more planned for 2024/2025.
The fund also funds, swan recliner chairs, mood lights, CD players, DAB Radios, wedding box contents, swan folders and contents, swan bereavement bags and contents and so much more.
I will be doing the abseil with Emma Gibbons one of our amazing End of Life Care Champions and HCA on Ward 28. We are both very nervous but excited. I know I will be thinking of Dad on the day as he would have loved to see me do this abseil off the Ward Block.
I specifically want to to raise money for our Swan Bereavement Bags the staff gift to loved ones at the hardest of times, the contents in the bag are a letter, Bereavement Booklet, the Good Grief Trust Card (Help and Hope in one place) and tissues. I am currently working on designing a Bereavement Bag for those Bereaved by Suicide and hope the donations can also support this specific Bereavement Bag. It's so important that families and friends have help and support (signposting) them before they leave the hospital at the hardest of times.
Help us to make a real difference at the hardest of times. Please donate if you can, your support is appreciated. The swan fund has raised in just over 9 years £98,000 our goal is to get to £100,000 in the next few months, please help us make it happen for our patients, their families, friends and our staff. Dad would be so proud.
Thank you,
Jules Lewis
