Story
In 2022, my mum was first diagnosed with breast cancer and it completely shook the whole family. The next few months she bravely embarked on a journey through what at the time, we thought was going to be a curable disease. Multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a mastectomy and she still always kept a smile on her face and made the most of every moment. In May 2023, she was given the all clear and we could all finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Fast forward to August 2024. A CT scan showed that the cancer had in fact returned and this time, while they could treat her, there would be no cure. Stage 4 secondary breast cancer: the news no one wants to hear. And while the journey and prognosis has changed, mum's mantra hasn’t - live life to the fullest and make the most of every moment.
The thought of losing my mum is incredibly painful, especially after losing my dad at 15. But I know I'm not the only daughter that will or has faced that reality. Sadly, more and more people are discovering the terrifying reality of cancer every day.
So, me and my best friend of over 10 years are taking on a half marathon mighty hike for my mum and the many other brave people living or facing cancer every day. I've never walked this far continuously in my life, and my friend Jade? Well she's literally training to be a PT so I have my work well and truly cut out! Bunderson (Bundy+Henderson) are on a mission to complete this challenge and show ourselves that we can put whatever we put our minds to, and to raise lots of money to bring much needed support to those who are battling more than a walk in the park!
