This is a charity very close to my heart - In 2021 I lost my wonderful dad to MND. I have to be honest and say that, before his diagnosis l didnβt know much about this devastating illness, and the impact it has on the family. To watch someone as active as my dad, lose the ability to do everything he loved, with the people that loved him, was simply torture.
Doddie Weir was diagnosed with MND in 2016. He became involved with campaigning and fundraising, setting up a foundation named "My Name'5 Doddie" which had raised Β£8 million for MND research by the time that he died from this condition. To fearlessly face down his diagnosis and improve the research landscape for people living with MND is mind-blowing. And to have done it with a smile never far from his lips, and humour punctuating every call to action, Doddie is an inspiration.
To me, Doddie Weir will always be a hero and someone who will never ever be forgotten.
Doddie Aid is a way for us all to do our little bit to help him, my dad and the Foundation in the quest to find better treatments for MND.
We intend to walk 535km combined - myself 300km and Ken 235km in 34 days.
