Story
Hi! My name is Jules, I am a refugee in the UK, and this year I’m running the London Marathon to fundraise for Jesuit Refugee Service UK.
Every year, I watch people running the Marathon, and every year I think to myself – ‘I would love to do that’. So, this year I’m very excited to be running and taking on this challenge.
I want to support JRS because they are a big organisation around the world helping refugees and asylum seekers and people struggling with homelessness. Here in the UK, they provide practical support, creative activities, and vital support to people struggling with homelessness.
When I was an asylum seeker, JRS UK supported me.
Now that I have my refugee status, it’s my turn to give back my body to run to collect money so JRS UK can help more people, homeless people and asylum seekers.
I already enjoy going to the gym regularly, but running will be my new public challenge. It’s nice to be running as part of Team JRS UK.
When I run, I like to listen to Christian music (alleluia!) and also to Firework by Katy Perry.
I don’t have much to give, but by running, I hope I can raise money for this important work to support asylum seekers and refugees. Anything you can give to my London Marathon fundraiser will help to accompany refugee friends.
I also invite all of you to do like me – can you run and raise money for JRS UK?
Thank you,
Jules
