We help stroke survivors to find strength through support.

Story

My family was devastated when, just after a PE with Joe lockdown workout, I got a call to say Mum had suffered a massive stroke.

Covid restrictions made a horrendous time even worse. We weren't allowed to be bedside to hold her hand until she had passed the point of recovery. It was awful. It hadn’t even been 2 years since we lost Dad.

Running has helped me cope with the grief of losing Mum and Dad.

Running had already become a means of mental relief before lockdown; I had been working towards a Half Marathon before restrictions were announced and I continued my training. Mum thought I was crazy, but very proud as I was trying to raise funds for Prostate Scotland. After Mum passed away in June 2020, running became a much needed lifeline. I completed my half-marathon target, on my tod as the event had been cancelled, on my 40th birthday. Since then I've gradually built up the miles, in 2021 completing a solo Deeside Marathon and then the Manchester Marathon. In 2022 I completed the 20th anniversary Loch Ness Marathon and I know Mum and Dad would be proud as punch, if a little surprised!

Running London Marathon 2024 for Stroke Association is bucket list item for me. It will be the epitome of my running challenges and hopefully help raise awareness as well as some much needed funds for research, treatment and support for stroke sufferers.

Times are hard but if you can spare some pennies, any donation is appreciated.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
