Story
Some of you may be familiar with 'The Blue Tits & Blue Balls Swimmers', well let us now introduce 'The Trotting Tits'!
Judith is a Customer Ambassador for South Western Railway, Dorchester South Station and together with her friend Jane Austin, a retired Programme Lead Manager in Mental Health, NHS Dorset, they are raising funds for The Dorset Cancer Care Foundation with their dear friend and ex work colleague, Win Wood very much in their hearts.
Win retired as a Clerical Officer at Dorchester South 's Station after 20 years of service in December 2024. With all paperwork signed and agreed, she started to plan holidays and looked forward to spending time with her family and friends. Win attended a routine Mammogram Screen Test at her local hospital in December. The results were inconclusive. A 2nd scan revealed she had developed an aggressive, cancerous lump hidden behind her breastbone so underwent a successful operation just days after her long-awaited retirement and 67th birthday. They removed a 4mm radius lump, but further investigations learnt the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes in her right arm. She later underwent a second, successful operation removing all her lymph nodes. Wins treatment is very positive, but is far from over and now as a preventative measure, will shortly begin a 5-month course of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy.
Over the past 14 years Jane has clocked up 10 marathons and a couple of 50k Ultras. The most memorable being the London Marathon in 2017. This year, Jane (58) was successful to received a 'Virtual Position' in the London Marathon, Sunday 27th April'25 and when learning about Win’s cancer, she wanted to run for a meaningful reason rather than just an achievement. She suggested for Judith (57) to run with her in a 'Trail Marathon' from Lulworth in Dorset to Portland Bill, just over 27 miles, raising funds for DCCF. Although Judith was a member of team to swim the C.S.A's Fastest Female Relay across the English Channel in 2022 , successful to complete The Jurassic 60K Ultra in 2023 and years earlier ran a 5k 'Race for Life' with Win, she has never taken on a challenge of this type or scale!
Win is overcoming her own challenges with mixed emotions, but felt it was important to support a local charity with the knowledge 100% of monies raised would support this smaller organisation. The Dorset Cancer Care Foundation www.dccf.co.uk was founded by 3 local nurses in 2013, each who have battled their own challenges to cancer. The Foundation is a non-profit making organisation whose mission is to financially support Dorset residents through their cancer journey. Awards including specialist items i.e. post-surgery bras, financial bills, respite, domestic care, transport & parking costs for treatment etc. as well as offering support to cancer patients and their families.
Please help us to support Win as she prepares for her journey ahead, by placing a donation of any size on our following Just Giving Link. Your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated as we 'trot' across Purbecks to Portland Bill.
With many thanks,
