"the best of DMU in one person" The Adam Redfern Memorial Fund has been established to give aspiring students with a flair for media, journalism and sport the opportunity to study at DMU and make the most out of their time here

Story

On the 27th April, 2025, I will be taking to the streets of London as part of the London Marathon! This is going to be a huge challenge for me and I really appreciate your support and encouragement!

The fund is in memory of my school friend, Adam Redfern, who died suddenly of a cardiac arrest while out jogging in March 2021, aged 28.

During October, The Memorial Fund was pleased to support DMU in the launch of its Heartsafe Campus project. The initiative kicked-off with a day of in-person CPR training sessions, delivered by The British Heart Foundation using their RevivR module. Approaching 50 students benefitted from the training, with further sessions now planned for early 2025. A student acted and produced cardiac risk awareness video is at the stage of final editing and will be released very soon. This will be available online for everyone to view. The Fund also continues to actively promote the BHF’s online version of RevivR, which we encourage everyone to complete. It takes only 15/20 minutes and all you need is a cushion and your phone.

Separately, the Fund continues to support Media students and Sports at DMU. Two Media School scholarship awards have just been announced for 2024/25 and the Fund is currently supporting DMUSport with the provision of a Learn to Swim programme, which enables students who are not already comfortable in the water, to learn a valuable and potentially life-saving skill.
