Story
This year I’ll be taking to the skies on the wing of a Boeing Stearman biplane, hitting speeds of up to 120mph! I’m doing this to raise money for Meningitis Now, a fantastic charity working to save lives and rebuild futures in the UK.
Watching the 1930’s film ‘Flying Down to Rio’ as a child left me fascinated by the amazing ladies dancing on top of the planes. Now, thanks to the generosity of Rangeford Villages, I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to try it myself!
If you can, please make a donation to help Meningitis Now continue their life-saving research to find better vaccines, treatments and diagnostics for meningitis. Your donations will also help Meningitis Now to provide vital information and support for people who have been affected by this devastating disease.
Meningitis can take a life in a matter of hours of the first symptom. 1 in 10 who contract bacterial meningitis will sadly die. And for those that do survive 30-50% are left with life altering after effects such as acquired brain injury, hearing and sight loss, epilepsy and amputations.
There are 22 new meningitis cases every day in the UK. It can affect people of any age, but babies, children under 5, 15-24 year olds and people over the age of 65 carry the highest risk.
Your donation will ensure that Meningitis Now can continue to be here for the half a million people living in the UK who have been affected by meningitis and also keep working towards eradicating meningitis once and for all.
It will also ensure that I won’t back out of walking on the wings of a plane!
