Story
Join us as we undertake the grueling (and wonderful) UK 3 Peaks challenge!
Crohn’s & Colitis UK are the leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis, and it's a cause particularly close to home for several members of our party. Our driver, Kath, has suffered with Crohn's for over 15 years now. Materializing in puberty, Crohn's can hit anyone, and is typically characterized by an overactive immune response attacking the patient's digestive system. Side effects include extreme pain, sickness, malnourishment, and anemia, to name a few.
The struggle is real, and with no known cure, this invisible chronic illness is made all the more potent through a general lack of awareness that we are desperately seeking to address.
Right now, an estimated 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. And the real number could be almost double that. Because of the aforementioned stigma and misunderstanding surrounding the diseases, thousands of people are suffering in silence.
But not Kath, and not others - if we can help it! Bolstered by the courage of our ever-optimistic (and occasionally sassy) driver, the dynamic duo (Joe and Marcus) will be undertaking a mountainous adventure in aid of this heartfelt cause. Together, we'll be racing against the clock to climb the tallest mountains in England, Wales, and Scotland...consecutively...in under 24 hours! Ambitious? Certainly. Realistic? Possibly. Achievable? Well, we certainly think so! And of course, we couldn't manage it without Kath herself chauffeuring us between these gargantuan giants.
Crohn’s & Colitis UK are working to improve diagnosis and treatment, and to fund research into a cure; to raise awareness and to give people hope, comfort and confidence to live freer, fuller lives.
