I'm running the 2024 London Marathon and raising awareness and hopefully a lot of money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), which is a brilliant charity that does so much amazing work working with individuals and families suffering from Type 1 Diabetes.

My girlfriend, Ashleigh, is Type 1 diabetic (she was diagnosed when she was only 4 years old). This means that her body doesn't produce any insulin when breaking down food, causing her blood sugar levels to fluctuate. As a result, Ashleigh is dependant on an insulin pump and a sensor to monitor her blood glucose levels.

Though Ashleigh says herself she has been very lucky to with the support and equipment options she has received (being able to access both insulin pumps and injections, as well as sensors), this isn't the case for all type 1 diabetics, with funding and access to options being an obstacle for some.

The way that Ashleigh manages her not just her own diabetes, but young people and adults alike who are struggling with theirs is mindblowing. She also has to put up with me, so I figured running a marathon was a decent enough way to show how proud of her I am.

JDRF does fantastic work raising awareness of new treatments with the NHS to support type 1 diabetics, and continues to do research that will treat type 1 diabetes and its complications. Any donations would be eternally appreciated, by myself, Ashleigh, and the people at JDRF.
