Story

Hi there! My names Jordan Chhetri and I’m raising money for

Children’s Cancer ward (0233)

My life changed on April 22nd 2009 when the doctor told me I had Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, which is a network of vessels and glands spread throughout your body. The size of this mass sitting on my chest was 14 cm by 9cm, and I was given a 20% of living. I was 14 years old. My life was turned upside-down but fortunately, after 9 months of intensive treatment, and some very touch and go moments, I came out of the other side of my diagnosis in remission.

I definitely celebrated long and hard once I had received the all-clear, but I finally realised that the way I was living my life wasn’t healthy and if I didn’t make some changes, it would kill me. One of the biggest realisations I had about just how unhealthy I had become was when I noticed the amount of weight I had put on. I had always been slim so when I stepped on the scales and found I was 16 stone I was shocked. This was a massive wake up call for me, so I decided that I needed to do something to push myself to change. Perform with Purpose was born as a result, as a way for me to challenge myself, improve my own fitness and find a way to support charities who spend their time helping kids and families through diagnoses like mine.

What I’m Doing:

I’m currently training to climb Mount Everest to raise money to support children with cancer. I’m lucky enough to be climbing with Gelje Sherpa, a fantastic 13x 8000m summiteer who specialises in mountain climbing & rescues, and the brilliant team at AGA Adventures. I also have to give a massive thanks to Adriana Brownlee who has been nothing but helpful in my preparations for the climb. Who also has summitted 12 8000m mountains at the age of 22!!

Who I’m supporting:

All the money I raise will be donated to the Piam Brown Ward at Southampton Hospital, which is the Wessex regional children’s cancer ward. They look after children with all types of cancer from birth to 16 years old. This is an incredibly personal charity for me, as they basically saved my life, and it feels only right that I find any way possible to repay them for this. They have the most amazing team of doctors, nurses and ward staff, and I was lucky and so thankful to be given the opportunity to receive my treatment with them. I’m honestly not sure I’d be alive today if it weren’t for all the help and support and comfort they gave me and my family throughout my treatment.
