Story
At the 2024 London Marathon, I will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon with multiple sclerosis (faster than 3hrs 30mins).
I was diagnosed in 2019 with MS after going to the doctor with severe optic neuritis (the most common symptom that leads people to a doctor, and a diagnosis). Since then, I have been on Ocrevus - the latest and greatest treatment that I receive through an infusion twice per year - and I have been fortunate that my symptoms have been relatively mild, and I have not seen any noticeable worsening.
However, there are 130,000 people in the UK that live with MS, and while treatments have improved drastically in recent years, there is still no cure. The figures show that 80% of people with the condition still experience worsening disability over time which, for some, can be severe.
When I was diagnosed, the MS Society website was the first place that I went to find out more about the disease, understand what it meant for me, and to find a support network. The charity is a vital source of research funding, support and information for people with MS (and their families) in the UK.
I am running to support MS Society, and its mission to Stop MS.
