My name's Jon Rees, I'm a Royal marines commando veteran. In my life I have a beautiful wife, a beautiful 4 month old daughter and a my best mate named Ralph the dog.

Hopefully I can raise enough money to pay back the charity that helped fund my cancer treatment and save my life so that someone else can have access to the money that I was given in my hour of need.

Back In 2017 I found myself being diagnosed with cancer. Having had a rare form of cancer it went misdiagnosed by the consultant and in time revealed itself later than it should of. By this time reached out to McMillan and they aided me as much as they could. I was informed that in regards to the timeframe I was seen and should of had treatment I was out of scope and needed the treatment weeks past. Unfortunately this news came during the holiday period (Christmas period) and all surgeons available to carry out the procedures couldn't fit me in as they were juggling operations and their own vacations, I was however informed that they could fit me in if I was to go private. I was lost where to turn and got directed by a friend to the Royal marines charity. They helped to pay for the treatment I needed to save my life, for which I will forever be grateful. I’ve started a challenge I created to not drink alcohol for 32 weeks (until 11th May 2024!) I wanted to go further than the usual one month charity challenges that already exist and 32 weeks is the length of basic training in the Royal Marines. I have called this the ‘Commando Don’t Drink Challenge’ To find more information about the challenge, the charity and to see my regular updates and track my progress I have created a Facebook group if you could please join and share!
