Story
Fred and Barnaby Meeson are taking on the epic challenge of walking the Cumbria Way, a 73 mile walk through the heart of the Lake District. They are walking to raise money for Tom’s Trust, in memory of their cousin, Emily.
Emily died very suddenly, on the 8th August 2022, from a brain tumour aged just 8 years old, just two weeks after diagnosis. Tom’s Trust have provided much needed support for her mum, dad and brother and showed us the need to raise the profile of supporting those affected by brain tumours.
The boys will be walking with their mum and dad, Emily's parents, her brother Harry and Nana and Grandad as their support crew. This walk will take them 7 days to get from Ulverston in the south to Carlisle in the north, a total of 73 miles.
Tom's trust
Children who are being treated for a brain tumour receive psychological support from the day of diagnosis onwards, throughout treatment and after treatment. Their family members are also given the help they need, ensuring all the family are supported during this difficult time. In the case that a family tragically loses their child, the family will receive bereavement support.
The support Emily's family have all received since she died has been invaluable and they honestly don’t know how they would have even begun to navigate life without Emily without regular professional help. We are raising funds to ensure other families continue to receive this much needed support, to thank Tom’s Trust for their essential work, and to help them expand their services across the country, into other hospitals.
For Emily
Emily loved the outdoors, walking, climbing mountains and splashing in rivers in the Lake District. The Lakes is such a special place for us all, having had family holidays there together.
We will be posting regular updates so please do follow our progress. Thank you for your support and for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
