We provide inspiration and support to people seriously injured through sport

Story

Around 10 years ago my younger brother Drew suffered a life changing accident, breaking his neck at C4/C5. He lost the use of his legs, partial use of his arms, and now heavily relies on a full time care team, to help him live independently.

In 2016 Drew set up the charity Gym Possible to help other wheelchair users and people with mobility issues to rehabilitate and to improve their mental and physical health.

As a former elite athlete, Drew always planned on running the Great North Run but never got round to it prior to his injury. For the second year running I'm joining a group of my brother's friends (all ex-runners themselves) to push Drew in his wheelchair along the Great North Run.

After the success of last year when we raised over £11,000 for the Matt Hampson Foundation and Gym Possible, we're upping the ante - aiming to go sub-2 hours on the big day (and hopefully raising a lot of money in the process).

The money we raised for the MHF last year has been used to support Drew's charity Gym Possible a fully wheelchair accessible gym in the North East of England. Thanks to the help from the MHF and all of the generous fundraisers Gym Possible has gone from strength to strength in 2024, opening a brand new fully accessible gym at Gateshead leisure centre.

Please consider donating to this brilliant cause so we can continue to make exercise accessible, thanks.

The Matt Hampson Foundation inspires and supports young people seriously injured through sport through its unique Get Busy Living centre in rural Leicestershire. The centre provides expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, support, mentoring and advice to people suffering a life-changing injury.

The centre’s doors were opened in 2018 by Founder and ex-England and Leicester Tigers rugby player Matt Hampson, who himself experienced a life-changing injury in 2005.
