Story
Sometimes things combine and an idea takes hold and germinates.
I started cycling again a few years ago and I’ve really taken to it. I love the fact that if you simply keep going then you can go a long way. I like the zen state that sitting peddling brings me too. It’s definitely the case that less is more.
This year marks me turning 60, marks 10 years working for Campbell Tickell and I felt the need to set myself a challenge. I’m definitely picking a bit of an argument with the ageing process.
The challenge I’ve set myself is to cycle around 1100 miles from Sofia in Bulgaria to Antalya in Turkey over 3 weeks in the heat of a Turkish summer. I genuinely don’t know whether my body and mind can do it. But I’m looking forward to finding out!
I’m going to raise money for The Bike Project who refurbish bikes and give them for free to refugees and asylum seekers. I love the idea behind their work: That bikes improve the quality of life of people whose health, wellbeing and ability to get around are all compromised by having almost no money. Read more about their work in the update images below.
The Just Giving platform does not make it straightforward to split donations between charities. In recognition that the majority of the miles will be in Turkey I have already made a donation of £250 to the DEC Turkey Syria Earthquake appeal. This is in addition to any donations made here which will go to The Bike Project.
All support will be massively appreciated and will help the Bike Project provide more desperately needed bikes.
Thanks!
